Iranian society needs more than ever a dialogue about freedom, justice, the common cause, and the future. If any legacy of Shariati remains alive, it is this call for responsibility and commitment, criticism of power, and sensitivity to human pain and suffering that has flesh and blood. The issue in Iran today is no longer 'how to make a revolution?', but rather 'how to build a society that can freely, justly, and without reproducing domination, engage in dialogue with itself and its future?' This is a question that Shariati can still call us to reflect upon.
