The 'Ashura Puppet Opera' (2008), as Behrouz Gharibpour states, was the 'beginning of the national opera' and, as music experts say, 'the first attempt at creating opera in the style of the Iranian school of opera.' Despite this, both he and the creator faced numerous accusations. Among these accusations were statements by Fatemeh Alia, then a member of parliament, who said: 'This is exactly like the 'Masjid Zarrar' (a building constructed by hypocrites in Medina and destroyed by the Prophet's order), and continuing on this path might, God forbid, lead to the idea that any disliked act could be done to promote religious themes even inside a mosque.'
