Technical discussions between Iran and the U.S. in Switzerland have concluded. The Iranian Foreign Ministry states that both sides agreed to establish joint working groups, including on "nuclear" and "sanctions" matters, and "necessary understandings were achieved." Hours earlier, Donald Trump announced the release of the first portion of Iran's frozen assets and said Iran would use the money to purchase food from American farmers. Abdolnaser Hemmati, head of Iran's Central Bank, implicitly confirmed these statements, saying the first 6 billion released, in line with an agreement made in the Persian year 1402 between Tehran and Washington, would be used for food and medicine. Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, shortly after returning from Switzerland, headed to Muscat for "arrangements regarding Iranian management of the Strait of Hormuz" and to enhance bilateral cooperation. Masoud Pezeshkian is also expected to travel to Pakistan.
